PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

 

Following the remarkable achievement of the three preceding cohorts, and in response to the growing demand for skilled supply chain specialists, applications are currently open for the fourth cohort of the Postgraduate Diploma in Procurement and Logistics Management offered by the African Institute for Multidisciplinary Studies (AIMS) in collaboration with Abaarso Tech University.

 

The program has been co-designed with senior procurement and supply chain professionals and will provide you with the specialist knowledge and skills in procurement and supply chain management essential for advancing your career in this industry. The primary objective of the program is to provide students with a rigorous conceptual framework and systematic knowledge of the best practices in procurement and logistics management while ensuring efficient and effective utilization of organizational resources.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

This program is designed for individuals seeking a career in supply chain management or those in the early stages of their professional journey, aiming to enhance their skills. Applicants holding a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution are eligible for the program. Considering the program curriculum, supply chain practitioners, as well as candidates with a master’s degree or those currently pursuing one, are highly preferred and encouraged to apply.

 

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY & COMMITMENT

 

Course materials will be delivered in English, and given that program instructors come from various international institutions, applicants are expected to have strong English communication skills. Achieving success in the program requires a dedication to participating in two live sessions per week, each spanning 2 to 3 hours. Fulfilling course requirements will also involve allocating extra time for reviewing materials, preparing projects and assignments, and completing exams.

SEMINAR SERIES

Throughout the program, enrolled students will have the opportunity to attend five international seminars, covering topics such as Entrepreneurship in International Trade, Six Sigma in Supply Chain Management, Distribution and Freight Logistics, E-procurement & E-logistics, and Port and Terminal Management to enhance and fortify their expertise in the field.

MERIT SCHOLARSHIP (50%)

The student with the highest overall GPA in the first semester will be awarded a 50% scholarship for the subsequent semester. The second and third-ranking students will receive 30% and 20% scholarships, respectively.

 

ASSESSMENTS & GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Course assessments involve case studies, simulations, article reviews, term papers, and scenario-based exams, requiring students to achieve a minimum score of 60%. In the early stages of the second semester, students select a research topic in their field. Upon approval from the supervisor and research committee, they initiate the writing of a research paper, a graduation prerequisite. This paper is presented at the International Conference of Natural, Health, and Social Science (ICONHASS), hosted by our institute, allowing students to synthesize program knowledge and apply it to practical field experiences.

 

CERTIFICATION

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be awarded a Post-Graduate Diploma in Procurement and Logistics Management. African Institute for Multidisciplinary Studies –AIMS and Abaarso Tech University will jointly award the Certificate.

Program Curriculum

This program covers a comprehensive range of courses, providing a strong foundation in logistics, procurement, and supply chain management.

Logistics and Supply Chain Management is a comprehensive course that provides students with an in-depth understanding of the principles, strategies, and practices involved in effectively managing the movement of goods, services, and information across the supply chain. The course covers topics such as supply chain strategy and design, transportation management, inventory management, warehousing and distribution, supply chain integration and collaboration, and global logistics. Students engage in case studies and practical projects to apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios, developing critical thinking and decision-making skills. By the end of the course, students are equipped with the expertise needed to optimize supply chain operations, improve efficiency, and drive strategic value in diverse industries.

In today’s fast-moving, competitive environment, all major projects need to be aligned with corporate objectives. Sourcing has the potential to deliver significant benefits, but large projects require substantial effort and often result in considerable change in the organization. The course will explore the subject of procurement and supply in the industrial, humanitarian, government, and commercial contexts, explaining its role and purpose within the supply chain. Students will learn how procurement department operations and plans have developed, the skills and information needed by procurement professionals, the academic theory and knowledge accumulated on the subject area, and the use of specific tools and techniques employed in managing the procurement function. This course focuses on imparting an easy-to-follow game plan with strategies for procurement, contract management, negotiation, and supply management to improve supplier relationships, secure measurable cost reductions, achieve operational effectiveness and efficiency, and positively impact margins and competitiveness for respective job areas. This course offers the guidance needed to take the participant’s procurement professional’s awareness to the next level.

This course introduces students to practical concepts of warehousing and inventory management including the types of equipment, storage processes and systems, the technologies used to identify and track units in a warehouse, and the regulations designed to ensure safety in warehouse operations. Students will learn skills including basic warehousing functions, e.g., receiving; storage; order picking, shipping, and industrial truck operator safety training; inventory control; hiring, firing, and employee motivation; handling returns; automated identification technology; basic unitization practices; freight claims; hazardous materials; and auditing both private and third-party warehouse operations to gain a better understanding of warehouse processes through field trips and/or applied lab exercise
